1. Overview of this CE program (top)

This home study course entails the independent study of the journal article, Work Effort: A Conceptual and Meta-Analytic Review, Journal of Management, 49, 125-137 (Van Iddekinge et al., 2023), followed by the completion of a multiple-choice test on-line. After you take the test, you are shown which questions you got wrong. Participants who receive a passing grade of 75% or higher on the test will receive 2 CE credits. Participants who fail the test may retake the test once at no additional charge, and receive CE credit if they pass (In accordance with guidance from the APA CE office, we are limiting the number of chances to take the test to 2 times.).

Van Iddekinge is the Henry B. Tippie Research Professor of Management at the University of Iowa. John D. Arnold is an Assistant Professor in the Management Department at the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business, University of Missouri.Herman Aguinis is the Avram Tucker Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Management at the George Washington University School of Business, where he also served as chair of the Department of Management (2019-2022) and director of the Master of Human Resources Management Program. Jonas W. B. Lang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Personnel Management, Work and Organizational Psychology at Ghent University and a Distinguished Research Professor at The University of Exeter. ...we reviewed conceptualizations of effort and provided an integrated definition that views effort as a direct outcome of motivation that captures (a) what employees work on, (b) how hard they work, and (c) how long they persist in that work...we identified four main ways researchers have operationalized effort and meta-analytically studied the effects of each operationalization on effort–job performance relationships.
